The enormous universe

How big is our enormous universe? It is hard to grasp the size of it.

Our enormous universe is full of stars, arranged in gigantic groups called galaxies. Our planet Earth, and the solar system it belongs to, is located in the outer reaches of our own galaxy - the Milky Way.

The Milky Way is believed to contain more than 200 billion stars and there are billion and billions of galaxies each with an enormous numbers of stars. Some scientists believe the universe is actually infinite in size. Some have tried to make the size of it more comprehendible for the human mind by comparing it to the number of grains of sand on a beach.

Grains of Sand

Imagine that every grain of sand on any given beach on this planet is one star.

Then the universe would contain more stars than the number of grains of sand on all the beaches of the entire Earth! Just mind-blowing.
